clarification

Hi all,

I was checking out the calender page, and I noticed that the August meeting that Erika and I are hosting was listed as being in Port Hueneme, but I want to make a correction to this, my address is in Oxnard. Just incase someone were to look on mapquest or something..... also, I noticed all of the sea Jay charters are listed for a 5 am departure, I thought John leaves at 4am.... wouldn't want anyone to be left standing at the dock!

Thanks to United Anglers and to Inside Sportfishing for donating 'prizes' for our last GCLA meeting. We appreciate the support!

Barbara McIntyre - News

Hi Lady Anglers,

The April Charter on the Sea Jay is now full. I will update you as we get closer on weather & tackle considerations.

On another note, I just was contacted yesterday to do a Solo Art Show here in Carpinteria at a new restaurant/wine tasting room- Corktree Cellars. Tentative dates are March 28 to May 31.

I am letting you know because I will have a reception from 3 - 5 pm on either Sat April 19 or 26. This is still to be determined. I will be the featured artist as they open thier doors - kind of an honor, I think.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Tuesday's meeting

Thank you to everyone who came to the meeting on Tuesday! I know Carpinteria is a long way for some of you. Hopefully the drive home went O.K. as well. The appetizers were great! Jeanne's dessert was.....well.....unbelievable! I still have Jane's container, and we're still eating cheese and salami that Mary left! And, of course, many thanks to Betsy for sharing her talented palate and eight (I counted) bottles of wine. A great time was had by all!

First Charter of '08

Just a short post about our first charter of 2008 on the Mirage yesterday; we had a BALL !! The weather was decent, a little windy at times, but warm and sunny. The Lady Anglers were out in full force and had a great time. We caught big beautiful red snappers, salmon groupers, awesome whitefish, chucklehead, pretty pink sheephead, and an assortment of various rockfish. Everybody came home with a full sack of fish. Jacqui and Ruta were vying for the jackpot with their beautiful red snappers but Jacqui eeked it out by a gill. On our way back in, Eriko gave us lessons on how to get the stones out of the fish heads to make jewelry out of them. I think the best part was "listening" to our Divine Miss M as she battled to get the stones out. And again we thank Ruta for taking one for the team as she got anointed by a seagull. Congratulations Ladies for a job well done yesterday. The GOLD COAST LADY ANGLERS are back and better than ever !!

"Fishing's Greatest Misadventures"

There's still time to submit a story to Casagrande Press for their upcoming anthology "Fishing's Greatest Misadventures" -- "... stories which cover the spectrum from terrifying to comical to downright bizarre. In these pages both everyday fisher[wo]men and pros tell their stories of freak or catastrophic accidents, fish attacks, sabotage, pranks, getting lost at sea, idiotic decisions, eerie or unexplained incidents, and other jaw dropping calamities. These stories bring to life the strange possibilities that await us once we cast our lines." Deadline is April 15. Click here for more details.
['Why would you want to submit a story like this?' Ten years ago I submitted a story to an anthology and got paid a whopping $60. However it was a great promo for women in sailing AND the editor of Food & Wine mag saw my story, loved it, and subsequently sent me on assignment fly fishing @ gourmet lodges in Alaska. 'Nuff said?]
