SeaJay Charter

Well, one more charter under our belts for 2009. The weather was overcast and the waters were flat, but we always have fun no matter what. Once again, Elena had the hot stick yesterday. It was one big calico after another and a beautiful sheephead. She was just awesome. Two white seabass were hooked and one was brought on board. The second one, which I hooked, was being eaten by a seal as I tried to reel it in. Capt John was throwing irons to try to distract it, but it wouldn't let it go. All of us watched in "horror" as my beautiful WSB was locked in the jaws of this awful seal. I've never seen anything like it - it was like watching "Shark Week" all over again. I was traumatized by this event and it will put me in "fish therapy" for sure, but I did come home with some nice calico's, a red, and some nice whitefish. Since there were half men and half women on this trip we decided to open the jackpot to the men and one of the guys won it with his WSB. I probably could have won it if that nasty seal hadn't messed with my "ju-ju". Oh well, life will go on and I will get that WSB back on the next trip. A lot of fun was had by all and the guys thanked us for teaching them how to fish.

August 1st Aloha Spirit

Nothing was happening early, but this one was better than the first two! (Oxnard dorado I guess...but they made a good dinner anyway.)
Shawn and Marion and Eddie....nice yellowtail!
Marion

Vita (la vita loca now!), Tanis (spelling?) and Jeanne with her CUTE short hair--it is!
More Marion.
Cook Joey has something exciting on the line with Josh trying his best...but it was all for naught this time.
Happy to be out on the water.

Hi Ladies,
From my pov here is the trip from Saturday. I will do my best to post the photos that I got, but I'm still figuring this out. We almost all got there early in the dark to head out for a day of fishing on Saturday morning. It was close to 5 by the time we were all on board...a few almost missed the boat. It was my fist time on the Aloha Spirit and the first time out by Santa Cruz (I think!) The fishing was sort of so-so over all for me--or not even so-so, but I caught my first white fish. (We were wondering if my third white fish was the jackpot of the day -- luckily things got better from there.) I overheard another skipper commiserating with Shawn that it was a big pool of d*** wherever he was too, but it DID get better. (the better fishing was at Willows, right?) The weather was so nice, and the ocean rewarded us with calm seas. I met some ladies that I had yet to meet, and two new ladies joined us -- Elena getting the jackpot and showing her casting skills. Check out Marion with the nice yellowtail! (Casting by Shawn....bringing it in by Marion.) Too bad we couldn't stay out longer, it might have been worth our while. (I started to attempt casting with a jig for those yellowtail-- and I did yell going out (right Louise?) or at least crew yelled for me a few times, but I have some work to do -- lost my only good lure in the kelp too.) I know Jeanne got some good photos, but here are a few that I took.
Deana
Vita in the early morning-thanks for half the breakfast burrito!!
Julie and Marion.
Yellowtail beauty again.
Elena and the calico!
Lovely Louise, Lori and Chris...tough day for some of us.

Paddy Hopping on the Outer Limits

Just got back from a 2-day aboard the Outer Limits out of Seaforth in San Diego...
With the tuna bite being spiratic, we decided to head south along the coast in search of kelp paddies holding Dorado and Yellowtail. Fishing was a bit slow, but my boy landing his first dorado made the whole trip worth it...Here is Tanner with his 17 pound Dodo!!!

I managed 1 yellow out of the kelp on day one...

My second pushed 35 pounds and took the JP on day two and ended up being the largest fish of the trip!!!!

Beautiful weather and a great boat and crew made for lifetime memories!!!!!
Get out there and fish ladies!!!!!

Tony Reyes, Sea of Cortez.

Hey Ladies,

I just got back from an amazing fishing experience! Its Tony Reyes Fishing Tours out of San Felipe Baja Mexico. Check out there website. Its roughing it, nothing like a San Diego long range or overnight.. but totally worth it.

Here is a picture but I put a bunch on my facebook page with captions. Here is the link if you want to check it out.
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=125662&id=645157436&l=26e637ba03

The other people on the trip said it was one of the worst fishing weeks, but we thought it was amazing! Wide open yellow tail bite the first day. Cabrilla fishing was amazing!! Great bite and fight. We got some dorado, pargo, whitefish, broomtail, sierra, humbolt squid, and damn trigger fish..
We didn't get in to grouper or black sea bass. The sister ship, Jose Andreas, got some. Either way it was amazing! I think it will be a yearly trip for us.

See you all soon!
Sophia

p.s. Veronica- I met your Dad and Brother!! Took some pics with them, will send them to you later.

Yellowtail Slayfest

Mary, Babsie, Me and the love of my life Fred decided to get a mid-week trip in. We booked spots on the Ultra out of San Pedro's 22nd Street Landing. We had 9 anglers and fished San Clemente and Catalina for an awesome count of 14 Yellowtail, 1 White Seabass, 1 Halibut, and a ton of Calico bass all released but the ones that swallowed the hook so deep they bled.

It's Patty's Birthday Today!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PATTY!!
