getting ready to go fish

Our fist day on the water was a 1/2 day and we left at the liesurly hour of 9 am
Biff and I were on this trip with his cousin Robert of Utah. ( Robert was best man ot our wedding)

Haida carver and me

On the first day the kings were slow so we decided to go and get the rock fish limits out of the way,  our buddy Nils was on board and hooked this nice halibut and handed it to Biff to bring up- turned out to be 125# a new pwesonal best for the Biff!

We were jigging off the bottom mostly for the Yellow Eye, Lings and Halibuts,  I thought this was a nice  Ling about 20#or more.

Then the kings started to bite, there was a lot of pressure on the salmon grounds, so getting our limits was not easy, it was drizzly and cold out and there was an army of commercial trollers out too.

That is why we were smiling so big to get the kings, felt like reall success against the odds
Here are the size hooks used for rock fish with some of the herring used in mooching for the salmon on the table behind my hand

This is the nice stinky salmon guts used for the halibut and rock fish.
This is Robert, Biff's cousin and a 40# Ling Cod

Here is one of the group shots on the dock back at the lodge.  the smaller fish we are holding are silver (coho) salmon.  They bite like firecrackers and jump all over the place.
We fished 3 and 1/2 days in all, each uf us came home with 3 boxes of fish a piece
