More Photos from an Epic Day on the Aloha Spirit

Here is one happy Lady Angler, a new reel, our Happy Avet Rep - Ben and a proud flock leader and Club Pres - Jeannie. A great day all the way around. Many who had not caught a White Seabass before got initiated into the tour of the boat ride attached to a running WSB. It's a thrill ride of under and over the other anglers, back and forth around the boat until the fish tires enough to be brought to the surface. All the while trying to contain the excitement and keep quiet so as not to spook the other fish still in the water.
These fish are very sensitive to noise and sharp strikes to the boat deck surface and the bite can turn off in an instant.

Thanks for a memorable day and Some great Seabass- Um Um Good Tasting!
Aloha Spirit Charter
OMG - What an spectacular day on the Aloha Spirit Charter yesterday. TWENTY, yes I said TWENTY, WHITE SEABASS were brought on board. Our girls kicked BASS !!! It was such blast. Sandra and Erika were fin and fin for the title of jackpot winner, but Charter Diva Erika won by a couple of scales. Everyone went home with yummy fillets for dinner. Louise was the lucky GCLA who won the gorgeous pink AVET reel. Special thanks to Ben Frasier from AVET who brought us all hats and donated the pink reel as well. What a super nice man and fishing buddy as well. We also noticed a lot of new booties on board too. All of these gorgeous boots were made for catching !! GREAT day ladies - GCLA now holds the record for the most WSB caught so far this year. We ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!
And most of all, a HUGE thank you to the skipper and crew of the Aloha Spirit. They were so great and fun and helpful - we cannot wait until our next charter with them.

The "Bad Ass BASS" Girls of GCLA
What a day on the Aloha Spirit. Some of us "bad-ass bass" girls decided fishing was more important than working so we jumped on the Aloha Spirit and kicked bass today and I mean WHITE SEA BASS !!!! Check out these lovely ladies !!! The skipper told us we had to be really quiet so not to scare the fish and it was a real challange for us, but we did and look what we got. Unbelievable !!!
But the best part for me was I finally got my "elusive" HALIBUT - all 22 lbs of it. I couldn't believe it. Last drop of the day, I was just shooting the breeze with the guy next to me, and BANG, I got hit and hit hard. I knew it wasn't a WSB cause it wasn't taking me around the boat, just pulling a lot of line. When it came to surface, I almost had a heart attack !! Finally, the curse is over after 18 years.
YIPEE !!!!!!!!!!
The GOLD COAST LADY ANGLERS rocked the boat today !!!! This is a day I will NEVER forget.

Fishing with the Carp Sportfishng Club 4/19/09
Well - I got invited to fish on a charter with The Carp Sportfishing Club this past Sunday on the the Stardust. We got a nice morning smooth ride over to Talcott Shoals (east Rosa).

I got to spend the day with my husband, eldest son and a lot of the guys they work with all week long - other trades guys and hands at the Lumber yard, etc.
I could hear my husband "Biff" laughing all day - somewhere on the boat.
In the end a ling took the JP (only 2 legal ones were caught).
I caught more than my limit - so I filled some other bags - that's always a nice feeling. The guys were noticing that I had a fish on pretty often, when I said this one feels like a white fish and it was - then they were really surprised. Go Lady Anglers!!!!!
The fishing was so so, we caught fish but nothing of any real size, reds, chucks assorted rockfish. I must have caught and released at least 6 short lings.

I put out the word to other Ladies and Louise jumped on it -so I finally got to fish with her - she is a kick.
Remember -I told you all I made up special Easter rock cod hooks? Well here are a few of them, I threw them in the bag and handed them out and darned if the chucks and reds didn't bite them, even those short lings!

This is Pete he CM'd the trip for the club.

My First Halibut!!!

I went out on the Aloha Spirit Friday. It was the first day this week that looked like better conditions and I have been itching to go and catch fish. I went out ON 4/1 with Gregg on the Island Spirit and die a lot of fishing but not much catching so I wanted to go out on Shawn Stewards boat, as his numbers have been better than most for the full day and 3/4 day boats.
I fished all day and caught 5 or 6 fish all nice but nothing really big or exciting and some really nice quality reds & chucks and 2 excellent lings were caught.
Shawn took us over to the kelp beds to see if there were any White Seabass biters but no takers Then we went for a halibut drift in Smugglers Bay. Still no biters, just as he told the boat to wind em'up and cut off your hooks & tackle - I got bit. I really thought it was a whitefish that was lost. I was fishing my lightest pole with a reverse dropper loop on a fluorocarbon leader. It did not fight I thought I was reeling up someones old boot until it stated to come into view and Shawn (saying it is a Halibut, it's a nice Halibut!) was at my shoulder the whole time telling me what to do and not do. He gaffed it about a foot below the surface and it was on board then I got excited!
A Big Thank You to Shawn and his crew for my first Halibut and first time winning a Jack Pot!!!!

Easter On the Pacific Dawn
Well, I was still bummed that Saturday's Apollo Charter was cancelled, and I still wanted to fish this weekend, so a last minute change of plans landed Mike and I on the Pacific Dawn. I was still apprehensive about the weather, but luckily for us, It was cooperating!!! We headed out late into the night, and we woke up to a beautiful morning. we started out kinda slow, but the bite picked up with some quality rockfishing. There were lots of nice reds and copper rockfish making their way into our sacks.
After getting our limits in rockfish, we decided to try for whitefish, but conditions gave us a hard time.... so then we headed out to do a couple of halibut drifts, and there were a few biters, including this nice fish that ended up being the JP!!!!
