As Charter master for the first time on the Mirage - I thought it would be nice to limit the load and make things a little more comfortable, maybe I have gotten spoiled or am getting old but I like it less crowded. Everybody felt like this was special enjoyed the light load. Erin V even stocked the pantry with some nice bottles of wine.
Out of 22 we had 18 anglers. this made it very easy for the crew and everyone to give a lot of attention to our 3 new lady anglers- Zoe, Anne and Liza.
It was a rough ride out and about a third of our group was very uncomfortable and spent much of the night in the galley. The sun came up on the back side of Santa Rosa and the wind was high. A couple of us tried for Seabass - but no luck.Capt.Tucker moved us off to look for some rock fish in shallower water in a more protected area. The sun was out and the wind died back to a tolerable level . We were catching White Fish, rock fish then Zoe brought up a nice pink sheephead -her first fish ever- nice way to start out. Her MOM, Anne got a nice big Chucklehead(copper rock fish) Liza did real well with a couple of really big Boccacio and some blue bass. Biff got this nice Ocean White Fish on one stop.
With the wind on us all day it was a tough go we kept picking here and there where Capt Tucker could keep us out of the wind. We all came home with something to cook -it was not the usual trip on the Mirage but we all made the best of it in true GCLA Fashion.
Renee pulled up this lunker Sheephead and it was definetly the JP Winner! Go Renee - She really went home with a nice bag of fish.
Just for the heck of it we put Biff's whitefish up against the Sheephead and it was no match. The Whitefish was a little over 7 lbs.Any way we had a good time - this was a day of fishing just not as much catching as we have had in the past. Our new lady anlgers felt they had accomplished something and shoud get a medal for haveing survived the trip- I think so too!!!!!
