Well, ladies, let's all celebrate another great charter for GCLA on the Pacific Dawn yesterday. What a fabulous boat. OMG - those bunks were soooooooooo comfortable, I slept like a baby. Me,the forever "earlybird", had to be woken up at 7 am to fish. The night started out on the "wrong foot", so to speak, when Erika became sidelined with a torn muscle in her calf. But the true GCLA that she is, put the pain aside and got on board anyway. She had to - it was her birthday charter and she wasn't going to miss it.
After a very comfortable night, the morning began with the hunt for WSB and halibut. New member Deana hit the jackpot with not one but TWO nice halibuts. The bigger of the two, 25 lbs., landed the starring role
But Lousie and Jamie were going give her a run for her money. Check out these lovely ladies:
Kristin also had a great day landing her very first White Seabass. Even though she has not been on the water since last October, she didn't miss a beat. Well done, Kristin - great to see you back in at the rail again.
Even though I was not one of the lucky ones to get a WSB or another halibut, I was able to pick some very nice "reds" and assorted rock fish.
All and all, it was a fabulous day - we all made limits and came home with full sacks of gorgeous fillets. And many KUDOS to the skipper and crew of the Pacific Dawn - they were just awesome. Whitney, in the galley, even made fresh fish tacos for us on our trip home. We could not have asked for a better trip.
ROCK ON Ladies, we've only just begun !!!!!

Kicked some Black Seabass...
Went fishing on the Aloha Spirit this weekend in attempt to get some more White Seabass but the skiff traffic was awful and the massive amounts of bait in the water made our bait insignificant. We did anchor up on the edge of a kelp line on what looked like 50+lb fish and the first hook-up was busted off after a 10-minute tug-o-war. Second fish lost in the kelp, then it was my turn!!!!!
This fish was a monster and had no intention of coming to visit me at the boat....
45 minutes later I was victorious and quivering while I watched my fish come to the surface.
A Black Seabass estimated by the crew to be 125lbs was caught and the crew got on it instantly for a speedy release. I was able to give it a big kiss before we let it go...The Top-Shot Tribute and something to remember me by! What a rush!!!!! This was my largest landed fish and it was on 25lb Izorline XXX with a 2/0 Owner circle hook.

More Photos from an Epic Day on the Aloha Spirit
Here is one happy Lady Angler, a new reel, our Happy Avet Rep - Ben and a proud flock leader and Club Pres - Jeannie. A great day all the way around. Many who had not caught a White Seabass before got initiated into the tour of the boat ride attached to a running WSB. It's a thrill ride of under and over the other anglers, back and forth around the boat until the fish tires enough to be brought to the surface.
All the while trying to contain the excitement and keep quiet so as not to spook the other fish still in the water.
These fish are very sensitive to noise and sharp strikes to the boat deck surface and the bite can turn off in an instant.

We were lucky to be directed by such a knowledgeable fisherman as Shawn Steward and his crew.
Thanks for a memorable day and Some great Seabass- Um Um Good Tasting!
Aloha Spirit Charter
OMG - What an spectacular day on the Aloha Spirit Charter yesterday. TWENTY, yes I said TWENTY, WHITE SEABASS were brought on board. Our girls kicked BASS !!! It was such blast. Sandra and Erika were fin and fin for the title of jackpot winner, but Charter Diva Erika won by a couple of scales. Everyone went home with yummy fillets for dinner. Louise was the lucky GCLA who won the gorgeous pink AVET reel. Special thanks to Ben Frasier from AVET who brought us all hats and donated the pink reel as well. What a super nice man and fishing buddy as well. We also noticed a lot of new booties on board too. All of these gorgeous boots were made for catching !! GREAT day ladies - GCLA now holds the record for the most WSB caught so far this year. We ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!
And most of all, a HUGE thank you to the skipper and crew of the Aloha Spirit. They were so great and fun and helpful - we cannot wait until our next charter with them.
