Sunday on the Speed Twin
Some of us GCLA's spent Sunday fishing on the Speed Twin. Not our best day of fishing, but we still had a lot of fun. Veronica, Meredith, & Vita, all newbies, had their first experience of a GCLA fishing trip. Chris learned her lesson of not getting in the Jackpot from a prior trip and redeemed herself with this nice "red" to win this jackpot. We even got to see a huge whale flipping his tail in and out of the water along with the dolphins chasing the boat. It was such a great day to be on the water. Lot's of smiling faces and many thanks to Marion for putting this together.

Mirage Charter
OMG - What a way to kick off our 2009 fishing season. First, we tip our rods to the awesome Captain and crew of the Mirage. What a GREAT boat !!! Thanks to Capt Joe, we caught limits of huge reds, chuckleheads, whitefish, and other assorted rockfish. Even though we could not keep them, a bunch of legal size lings were caught as well. Our bags were so stuffed, the fish were literally jumping out of the bags. The weather was great and we had a "BALL". Everyone on board will know what I'm talking about. Fishing doesn't get any better than yesterday. We had so much fun and even celebrated Renee's birthday. It was so great that all the newbie's on board were able to experience a fishing day like yesterday. And congratulations to Dorothy for winning the raffle - a gorgeous GCLA custom wrapped rod, designed and wrapped by our very own Erika. AWESOME !!! We can't wait to see that rod on the rail. To all the GCLA's who did and didn't make this charter, keep and eye out for the next one - you don't want to miss all this fun and great fishing.

Holiday Fishing Trip - Dolls Vs Balls
The 1st Annual Dolls Vs Balls Fishing tournement was a great time. In spite of tough weather, pesky Squid, mechanical problems we still managed to catch fish. The gals were out numbered by 3-1 6 gals 18 guys. Even so the crew figured we caught our share of qulity fish.
The wind was relentless and became gale force on the way home Satruday night- making even seasoned anglers turn green. The wind made for tough conditions as the drifts were faster and there was quite a bit of wind driven current, this made using upwards of 16 oz to get to the bottom a must.

Apollo trip to Colnett
Here is the crew of the Apollo from this past weekend. Several of these fellows will be working aboard the vessel in Santa Barbara for our Charter in April. This is Captain Drew- JJ was at home with the family. Here is the Co Captain and deckhand Joey with another angler - Les.
The guy down in the hole is deck-hand Danny getting fish out of thier fish holding area for sorting and cleaning at the end of the day . They fill this tank with sea water and it is kept at 33 degrees, each fish caught is tagged with your sack # and thrown in the holding tank - very cool.
Well we worked hard all day from about 8am to 6 pm I released 4 short lings before I got this one that was just legal and then Biff pulled in this lunker.
Right after that two more were caught that were even bigger.
But it was Biff's birthday so he caught a really nice fish and lots of great reds and a white fish.
Sorry, the Yellowtail didn't show up for us.
And the Humbolt Squid were fierce. We had to keep moving to avoid them . It is like fishing at the Islands and the birds/seals gettting too pesky.
The fishing was slow and scratchy by the crews standards. But the quality of the fish caught was great.
